Dear Friends of Better Life,
Today is a unique day in a unique season. May 6 has been designated globally as #GivingTuesday, which may seem somewhat incongruous given the financial challenges that COVID-19 brings on so many of us.
We face these same challenges. Because of the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, Better Life Assistant Chaplains and volunteers have not had physical access to Corrections Institutions in our Pacific Region since the middle of March.
This restriction has had significant financial impact, since our income is tied to our connections with men and women who are looking to be supported by a faith community upon their release.
However, this is not the end of the story.
This unique season of COVID-19 has both challenged and inspired Better Life—this organization made up of a passionate and committed group of Assistant Chaplains and Volunteers—to creatively and proactively provide a greater level of support to offenders.
Despite the restrictions COVID-19 has imposed, we have continued to invest in ways that support a growing number of men and women both within (through letters and phone calls) and outside of Federal Corrections Institutions, with the goal of safe and healthy reintegration back into society.
Because of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, many have joined together to mark today as an international #GivingTuesdayNOW. This day was created to support the men, women, and children who have been most affected by the pandemic and urgently need help.
Your gift today will help support the efforts of Better Life as we respond to the COVID-19 crisis. We are continuing to support reintegration through faith communities, which is such a game changer in preventing men and women from reoffending.
We realize that the financial implications of COVID-19 impact many of us, but if you’re able your financial gift today will make a significant contribution to ensure Better Life is able to continue to offer life-changing support.
Together, we can ensure that every offender who desires it can have the opportunity to connect with a faith-based community and, through that connection, the help and hope it brings on this #GivingTuesdayNOW.
We’re so thankful for you and for your support.
Gratefully,
Adam Wiggins
